What is a guardian home?

A Guardian Home allows select families to raise and love one of our top-quality Bernedoodle puppies while Bluebonnet Bernedoodles retains breeding rights. Once the dog has completed its role in our breeding program, full ownership is transferred to the Guardian family.

Who can become a Guardian?

We seek responsible, loving families within 50 miles of Fulshear, TX who are committed to providing a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment. You must:

  • Own your home or have landlord permission

  • Have a secure fenced yard or reliable supervision

  • Be willing to stay in close communication with us

  • Be available for scheduled vet and breeding appointments

What are the benefits of being a Guardian?

  • Receive a top-quality Bernedoodle at little to no cost

  • Access ongoing support from Bluebonnet Bernedoodles

  • Become part of our extended breeder family

  • Upon retirement, keep the dog permanently at no charge

Are there costs associated?

Guardian Covers:

  • Food, routine vet care, vaccines, grooming, training

  • Emergency care not related to breeding

Breeder Covers:

  • Genetic and health testing

  • Breeding-related expenses (AI, semen collection, C-sections)

  • Whelping and pregnancy care (for females)

What are the expectations for a Guardian?

  • Provide daily love, care, and companionship

  • Keep the dog intact (not spayed/neutered)

  • Notify us of heat cycles (females) or sexual maturity (males)

  • Make the dog available for testing and breeding

  • Follow breeder-approved veterinary protocols

Male vs. Female Guardian Dogs

Females:

  • Have 2–3 litters before retirement

  • Stay with us ~8 weeks for whelping

  • Require monitoring of heat cycles

Males:

  • May remain intact up to 4 years

  • Called for breeding or semen collection with 24-48 hours notice

  • Typically only away 1–3 days at a time

Retirement

When breeding obligations are complete, Bluebonnet Bernedoodles:

  • Arranges spay/neuter at Guardian’s expense

  • Transfers full legal ownership to the Guardian family

  • Releases all contractual obligations

Breach of Contract

Early spay/neuter, unauthorized breeding, neglect, or refusal to make the dog available for breeding will result in immediate reclaim by Bluebonnet Bernedoodles.
